Compulsory since 1st January 2010, the sorting of rubbish can be controlled at your door. Offenders will receive notice, while repeated infractions may lead to more severe fines. Rubbish collectors use stickers to point out suspicious bags. They may also fine you directly.

Bruxelles-Propreté (“Clean Brussels”) is the regional organisation in charge of collecting and treating domestic waste, as well as cleaning the streets and the regional public spaces.
Their services include:
1/ door-to-door collection of sorted domestic waste:
available in all supermarkets and grocery shops.
2/ Christmas tree collection, bulky items (on demand), public glass “bubbles” all over the city, chemical domestic waste etc. It also manages the two regional waste treatment centres and the mobile “green” centres.
3/ Small chemical waste :
The “Proxy-ChimiK » vehicles insure a regular service with regular dates and fixed hours. The vehicles stay parked for 45 minutes. Check on the internet site to see when they will pass (upon request) near you:

Municipal administrations
They are in charge of street cleaning and municipal public spaces. They also offer collection of bulky waste and manage container parks where you can go on specific days (check the website of your Municipality).
This service is restricted to the inhabitants of the municipality on presentation of ID card.
Bruxelles-Propreté: a doorstep pickup service operated on request, and by appointment, every weekday plus Saturday mornings. A free collection of 2 m3 is organised every 6 months in certain municipalities.
Each municipality has its own container park available certain days of the week. You can drop all bulky items. It is usually free, except for the rubble.
If the container park of your municipality is closed there are two permanent container parks open every day:

Some non-governmental charitable organisations collect your unused household items in good condition for resale second-hand at very interesting prices. These organisations are very active in Belgium: Small containers for the collection of clothes are spread around town.
