Museums

100 free museums in Belgium every first Sunday of the month, including 24 museums in Brussels!

Which ones ?

Brussels has over one hundred museums dealing with every subject imaginable, from the classics, like paintings and antiques, to folklore, not forgetting beer and comic strips. The main ones are the Museum of Central Africa in Tervuren, the Museum of Ancient Art, rue de la Régence, the Museum of Modern Art, the Museum of Art and History at the Cinquantenaire, the Maison du Roi on the Grand- Place, the Army Museum at the Cinquantenaire, the Planetarium in Uccle and the Albertine on the Mont des Arts, which groups together the National Archives, the Nassau Chapel and other institutions linked to the world of paper. Information on all these museums can easily be found in newspapers or tourist guides. However, it is more difficult to find out about local museums, run by the smaller municipalities in the Brussels Region, devoted to one specialist subject or one individual. We aim to tell you about some of them, which we have arranged by municipality. We strongly advise you to visit the different museums’ websites before you visit them, as well as the very new site: www.brusselsmuseums.be (FR/NL/EN). They are multilingual and always very well done!
