An immersion in their intimate and personal vision of the landscape, the light and its transparencies.
Inspired by the architecture of the CENTRALE, Brussels artist Sophie Whettnall offers an immersive project that combines video, performance, installations and drawings. The aesthetic pieces of the artist prove simultaneously sensitive and powerful, resting on a dialectic tension and attempt to instigate a relation between contradicting concepts and perceptions: softness and sensuousness, yin and yang, women and men...
As is customary for exhibitions by Brussels artists held at CENTRALE, Sophie Whettnall was asked to choose an international artist to exhibit alongside her. She immediatelythought of the painter, writer and poet Etel Adnan. At the crossroads of East and West, abstraction and figuration, the canvasses, watercolours and engravings of the famous artist of Lebanese origin, all draw their inspiration from the magic of Mount Tamalpais (California) and the heat of a scorching sun.
The evocation of nature (the sea ice, the forest and the stars) and light by Whettnall joins the warmth of Adnan's colorfully painted landscapes to match the intangible beauty of the world.
